The Spelthorne Labour Party is the Constituency Party for the Borough of Spelthorne an area which falls under the jurisdiction of Surrey County Council. We contest elections at the local Spelthorne Borough and Surrey County Council levels as well as the General Election whenever it is called.

This website came into being in March 2007 and is the first time we have had a website here at the Spelthorne Labour Party. Given the importance of the internet in modern news and politics we think it is vital that we have a presence on the web.

About Labour
The Labour Party was founded in the early 20th century and has been the principle party of the left in England, Scotland, and Wales ever since. Before the current period of government which began in 1997 we have had spells in Government in 1924, 1929-31, 1945-51, 1964-70, and 1974-79.
Amongst our proudest achievements was the founding of the modern welfare state by Clement Atlee's postwar Government under Health Minister Aneurin Bevan and in 1948 the creation of the National Health Service. In 1997 the present Government introduced the minimum wage to put an end to sweated labour. Since 1997 this Government has overseen the longest period of sustained economic growth, sustained investment in the public services, low unemployment, low inflation and low interest rates for generations.
The Labour Party grew out of the Trade Union movement and socialist political parties of the 19th century and is affiliated with the following trade unions.
